Three teams have now lost one game each in the battle for the Cumbria League’s Premier Division title.
Two of them meet up tomorrow at the Playground where Whitehaven will be especially keen to make up for their defeat last week to new leaders Keswick.
That defeat dropped Whitehaven from top to third and now they play the team lying second in Cockermouth.
The Sandair side had also suffered their own surprise defeat, losing at home to Workington a fortnight ago.
Keswick have a home game with Dalton, a side who have promised more than their results indicate.
They sit second bottom without a win in six games – five defeats and an abandoned fixture – but that first win doesn’t look too far away.
Meanwhile Keswick are still reminiscing about Paul Hindmarch’s knock at Whitehaven which changed the game – 86 off 34 balls with the first 50 coming off 15 deliveries.
Champions Furness will still consider themselves in the mix, nine points behind Keswick.
They will be hot favourites to record another win tomorrow when they travel to Edenside to take on Carlisle seconds.
The home side have found it tough in the top flight following their promotion and are still seeking their first win.
There’s a good-looking mid-table battle in prospect at the Valentine Ground where fifth in the table Workington entertain Millom who are a place and two points behind them.
Two of the division’s top run-makers are in opposition as well to add to the interest.
Vishva Chatharunga has made a big impression since arriving in West Cumbria while Millom’s Nathan Waterston has two centuries already so far, and also hit his highest score of 151 at Workington playing for Furness.
You can hear Nathan Waterston talking to John Walsh below on his pro role and how the Millom club is progressing:
The other Premier Division game should also be tightly contested with Wigton and Cleator lying seventh and eighth in the table, level on points.
