Action returned to league competition in the latest fixtures of the Derwent Valley Asbestos Removals Individual Snooker League.

Andrew Mitchelhill maintained his mid-table position in Division One with a narrow 3–2 victory over Stephen Jackson.

It was Jackson who made the perfect start, with some solid scoring to take an early lead.

However, Mitchelhill responded strongly in the second frame, with a break of 33 helping to bring the match back on level terms.

Mitchelhill carried the momentum into the third frame, edging a hard-fought tactical encounter to take a 2–1 advantage.

Mitchelhill then extended the lead by claiming the fourth frame in a similar fashion, to put the match beyond reach.

Jackson produced his best performance of the night in the final frame with a convincing victory, to end the contest on a high note, and provide some encouragement for the rest of the season.

Kevin Basnett delivered one of the most dominant performances of the season with a crushing 5-0 victory over Mark  Tunstall.

From the opening frame, Basnett was in complete control, compiling a superb break of 37 on his way to a comfortable win.

Basnett raised his level even further in the second frame, firing in breaks of 41 and 43 to secure the frame emphatically and extend his lead.

Basnett continued his relentless scoring, adding another notable contribution of 45 on his way to taking the third frame.

The highlight of the evening came in frame four as Basnett produced a devastating display of break-building, compiling a run of 36 with an outstanding 93 clearance.

Basnett maintained the relentless scoring in the fifth with further breaks of 38 and 32 to complete the clean sweep and cement his lead at the head of Division One.

Ryan Ismay delivered a commanding display of snooker to record an emphatic 5-0 victory over Mark Tunstall barely putting a foot wrong throughout a one-sided contest.

From the outset, Ismay controlled proceedings, taking the opening frame with a confident performance that immediately set the tone for the evening.

Any hopes of a response from Tunstall were quickly extinguished in frame two as Ismay increased his lead with another impressive victory.

Ismay continued to pile on the pressure in the third frame, producing another commanding display to extend the lead further.

Frame four followed a similar pattern, with Ismay once again restricting his opponent’s scoring opportunities to claim a convincing win.

Ismay maintained his concentration in the final frame, compiling a fine break of 42 in another polished performance to complete the whitewash and stay within touching distance of league leader Basnett.

Stephen Harrison emerged victorious with a 3-2 success after a hard-fought Division Two mid table battle against Adam Sowden who had drawn first blood.

Sowden took the opening frame with some steady play. Harrison responded immediately in the second frame, producing an excellent display to level the contest.

The third frame saw the momentum swing again as a gritty display from Sowden saw him take the lead again. Harrison regrouped admirably and brought the match back onto level terms for the second time in the evening.

With the match finely balanced at 2-2, it was Harrison who had saved his best snooker for the decider. A superb break of 46 helped him dominate the frame, securing an impressive victory and with it the overall match.

Adam Morilla

Adam Morilla produced an impressive display to defeat Andrew Caruthers 4-1 to maintain his 100% record for the season.

The match began with a closely contested battle, but Morilla edged the opener on the final black.

Carruthers hit back immediately in frame two, grinding out victory in another closely fought frame.

At this point, with the contest finely balanced, it was Morilla who shifted through the gears and grasped firm control.

He regained the lead with a comfortable success in the third frame before tightening his grip on the match with a similar performance in frame four.

Morilla saved his most impressive performance for last. Displaying excellent scoring and tactical control, he powered to victory in the fifth frame to secure a deserved 4-1 triumph and stay within touching distance of league leader Mark Cowen.

Mark Cowen turned in a composed and clinical performance to defeat Craig Wilkinson 4-1 and maintain his slender advantage at the top of Division Two. Wilkinson made a bright start, claiming the opening frame to seize the early initiative.

Cowen responded in determined fashion levelling the contest in frame two with a hard-earned and close victory.

The third frame was a more open encounter with both players scoring freely, but it was Cowen who was able to deliver the final blow and press ahead into a 2-1 lead. From there, Cowen never looked back. He dominated frame four, restricting Wilkinson’s scoring opportunities.

The final frame proved to be the closest of the evening, as both players traded chances in a tense battle, but Cowen held his nerve in the closing stages to edge a dramatic decider on the black and seal the match 4-1.

The victory ensures Cowen holds a two-point lead, at the head of Division Two, over nearest rival Morilla.
