Charlie Dixon with What Is It and Carole Jackson wit Croft Lass

The latest HRA meeting was the first in a series at Spadeadam and it opened with a four grade programme.

Seven went in the opening senior race and Denise and Jenny Bland’s Huntsman’s Time was the early leader from Willie and Craig Mark and Billy Lindsay’s Sportsman and Ruth and Charlie Dixon’s Let It Be.

The hounds were seen roughly six minutes later where Sportsman had gone to the front ahead of Malcolm Holmes’ Senor and Sarah and Baz Harper and the late Hartley Robinson’s Delta Fortune.

Back into view about three minutes later climbing up, Sportsman and Senor had established a lead but George McGimpsey, and Gillian and Millie Telford’s Millie’s Lass was closing the gap as she was climbing well.

Back into view after 18 minutes running, going by the field, Sportsman and Millie’s Lass had the advantage over Let It Be.

Reports then came in from the final road where Sportsman had gone clear and he maintained his lead to the line to claim his sixth senior victory of the season.

Millie’s Lass finished second with Denise and Jenny Bland’s Huntsman’s Unite in third.

Early leader Let It Be finished in fourth ahead of another early leader Huntsman’s Time and they were the only finishers.

The Pups had 10 entries and once slipped Duncan, Amy, Oliver, Liam, Eleanor Chisholm, Harry Turner and Brian Graham’s Let Me Try Again led them away from Ruth and Charlie Dixon’s Is It It (currently trained by Denise and Jenny Bland).

Going past the field Anna and Kerry Lindsay and Janie McAulay’s Zinger was now at the front ahead of Let Me Try Again and George McGimpsey, Gillian, Millie and Charlie Telford’s Charlie’s Dream.

Lee Wall and Sandra Mordue with Denton Phantom.

Word from the road crossing was that Zinger had a few yards on Ruth and Charlie Dixon’s What Is It and Charlie’s Dream.

However, once they appeared onto the finish Let Me Try Again was back in contention, battling with a few yards in hand on What Is It.

As they neared the line What Is It had most to give and claimed his second puppy victory from Let Me Try Again and Charlie’s Dream.

Is It It finished fourth ahead of Zinger and Nicola McMaster and Barbara Telford’s Rodney Ranger.

The largest field of the night was for the Open Maidens with a slip of 17.

Andy and Alan Horn and Simon Walker’s Overwater Louie was first into the lead ahead of Anna and Kerry Lindsay and Emmie McAulay’s Inspect and Malcolm Holmes’ Senorita.

Back into view going down the wood Inspect was now leading from Senorita and Stanley, Carole and Sarah Jackson, David Loan, Ricky Deacon and Donald Hodgson’s Croft Lass.

The news from the final road crossing was that Overwater Louie and Senorita were neck and neck from Croft Lass and Darren McMaster, Sadie Wilson and Anthony Skelton’s Silver Streak.

However, onto the finish Croft Lass and Senorita had it between them.

After a good race to the line Croft Lass finished best to claim the win over Senorita before a small gap to Inspect and Silver Streak.

Willie Mark and Sportsman with the family Chloe, Tom and Sophie.

Marti Borthwick and Amy Brooke’s Castle Callant claimed fifth ahead off Overwater Louie.

The final race of the night was for the Open Restricted with a line-up of eight.

Lee, Hayley, Joey and George Wall, Sandra Mordue and Ted Strorrow’s pair of Denton Phantom and Denton Adonis were smartly away with Darren and Julie McMaster and Sadie Wilson’s Tartan Raider giving chase.

Going past the field three had fashioned a lead – Sarah White and Elsie Horn’s Malfunction, Denton Phantom and Tartan Raider.

When word came in from the final road crossing Denton Phantom was leading from Tracey, Carolyn and Derrick Hill’s Milo Moon, Malfunction, Tartan Raider and Willie and Craig Mark and Jack Lindsay’s Summer Spirit.

Onto the finish Denton Phantom and Malfunction had settled down to fight out it out in another good race to the line.

Denton Phantom got the win in the end from Malfunction and Summer Spirit.

Sandra Mordue and Ted Strorrow and Lee Wall’s Denton Shamrock finished in fourth ahead of Ruth and Charlie Dixon’s Let’s Go For It with the final ticket going to Milo Moon.
