[P]OLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a collision in Blackpool.

Officers were called around 6.35pm on December 13 to reports of an accident on Highfield Road close to the junction with Common Edge Road.

A blue Ford Focus travelling eastbound was involved in a collision with a man.

The man, named as Derek Johnstone, 81, from Blackpool, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment. Sadly he died at hospital on January 22.

The driver of the Ford, a 66-year-old man from Blackpool, was not injured.

Police are appealing for information following the collision.

Sgt Adam Dawson, of Lancashire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with Mr Johnstone’s family at this time. They are currently being supported by specially trained officers.

“The driver of the Ford Focus is assisting with our enquiries but anyone with any information regarding the collision is urged to contact police on 101 quoting log reference 1254 of December 13.”

In a statement, Mr Johnstone’s family added: “Derek was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be in our hearts forever.”
