Comets take on the Glasgow Tigers in Championship action

[T]he Comets finally get their home league fixtures underway tomorrow evening when after yet another enforced gap in home fixtures the Comets finally kick start their home Championship programme.

Their visitors for their opening league fixture are the strongly-fancied Glasgow Tigers, with Saturday’s action at Derwent Park getting underway at 7:00pm.

The start of the season has been ridiculously disjointed for the Comets with a combination of factors meaning that eight of their last nine fixtures have been away from home – a situation that has proved far from ideal for everyone involved with the club whether it be supporters, riders or management – and it is certainly not good for business!

Workington have already raced half of their away Championship fixtures before staging any home fixtures so clearly there is a lot of catching up to do.

Comets owner Laura Morgan said: “Following our lack of home matches it feels like we are starting the season all over again at Derwent Park but with the forecast for a perfect day of weather and an attractive visiting side, containing former British GP winner Chris Harris and popular 2016 Comet Claus Vissing, it promises to be another exciting evening of speedway and we want plenty of supporters to come along and enjoy a great evening of entertaining racing.”

The Comets welcome Ty Proctor back from his recent shoulder injury while rising local star Dan Bewley is missing due to the European under-21 Championship semi-final in the Czech Republic, with the Comets set to operate Rider Replacement for Dan.

The Championship fixture will be followed by a Northern Junior League match between the Workington Meteors and the Ashfield Giants.

COMETS: 1. Rene Bach, 2 Rasmus Jensen, 3 Ty Proctor, 4 RR for Dan Bewley, 5 Nicolai Klindt, 6 Kyle Bickley, 7 Mason Campton.

TIGERS: 1 Richie Worrall, 2 Paul Starke, 3 Lewis Kerr, 4 Claus Vissing, 5 Chris Harris, 6 Jack Thomas, 7 James Sarjeant.
