Officers investigating a serious assault in the Shaddongate area of Carlisle on Saturday evening (2 Nov) have charged a man with grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
Kevin Whelan, 35, of Heywood Road, Ashton-on-Ribble, was also charged with two counts of assault by beating.
The charges follow an incident in the Shaddongate area following the Carlisle Fireshow.
At around 8.50pm to Mamas and Papas/Subway a man has been assaulted after having attempted to separate an argument between a couple.
The male was taken to hospital where he has received treatment for injuries to his shoulder. He has since been released from hospital.
Whelan has appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court today (4 Nov) and admitted charges of grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and assault by beating.
He was remanded in custody to be sentenced on 11 December 2019 at Carlisle Crown Court.
