Theatre by the Lake is proud to be making great strides with their Christmas Appeal to support their programme for young people in 2020, which was launched at the beginning of December.

TBTL’s current programme for young people includes the TBTL Young Company which provides weekly term-time sessions for children aged 7-18. In these sessions participants have the opportunity to create original pieces of theatre, work on scripts, develop performance skills and perform at TBTL. These classes are also designed to build confidence and self-esteem while learning key skills such as communication, concentration and empathy, as well as having fun and making friends. TBTL will be offering 15 funded bursary places in the Spring 2020 term to participants of the Young Company who otherwise might not be able to attend.

Other young-person centred programmes offered by Theatre by the Lake include: £10 tickets for under-26s to all of their in-house productions, making theatre financially accessible to younger generations; theatre workshops for local schools and youth organisations; backstage tours for community groups; and subsidised tickets for community organisations to visit TBTL through the Assisted Access Scheme and schools performances.

Theatre by the Lake has had a roaring start to their Christmas Appeal with the first £5,000 pledged from the Friends of Theatre by the Lake and almost £3,000 from individual donors, meaning they are just under £2,000 away from their goal and hope to smash this target before the fundraising appeal closes in mid-January.

Artistic Director Liz Stevenson said: “This appeal is all about young people, supporting our work in developing audiences and theatre makers of the future, and ensuring that they are at the heart of everything we do. We will learn from and with young people, and are committed to developing their confidence, skills and aspirations, nurturing creative talent, and being truly accessible to all. We recognise the power the arts has to change lives, and we want all young people in our area to have the opportunity to harness that power.”

Donations can be made at Box Office, over the phone, online, or by writing a cheque to the TBTL Development Department. Alternatively, audiences can donate directly after seeing the TBTL Christmas production of A Christmas Carol which runs until 11 January. Call the Box Office on 017687 74411 or find out more about the appeal at theatrebythelake.com/fundraising-appeals
