Steve Healey, Chief Fire Officer at Cumbria County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service is to leave the Service and take up the post of Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

Steve will start his new post in January 2021.

Chief Executive Katherine Fairclough commenting said: “Steve has made a massive contribution not just to the Fire and Rescue Service but also to the wider council during his 24 years of service, and whilst l am very sad to lose Steve, I understand his desire to seek out new challenges and wish him well in his new role in Lancashire. He will be missed and has been a great leader and colleague to work alongside. I am extremely grateful for all his hard work and his dedication to the people of Cumbria.

“Steve has established a strong team around him and I know that by working together we will ensure that there will be no change in the high quality of the services that the Fire and Rescue Service delivers.”

Steve added: “It has been an enormous privilege to work for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service for so many years. During my time here I have worked with many outstandingly talented Firefighters, Officers and Members. It will be an emotional day for me when I leave, but I am confident that we have the right people in place to ensure our great work continues for the people of Cumbria. I’m looking forward to starting my new role with Lancashire at the start of 2021 and know that the strong relationships between the two Services will continue.”

Cllr Janet Willis, Cabinet Member for Fire & Rescue, said: “Steve has been a fantastic leader of Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service for the last three years, and with over 24 years experience working in Cumbria, he will leave behind many friends and colleagues who have benefitted from his expertise and guidance. It has been a pleasure to work alongside Steve and I wish him well for his next adventure in Lancashire.”

Finally Council Leader Cllr Stewart Young commenting on Steve’s decision said: “I will be very sorry to see Steve go, but I wish him every success in his new role. Steve’s contribution to our Fire and Rescue Service, cannot be underestimated and he will be very much missed by many people both within the council and wider Blue Light colleagues in Cumbria.”
