People are urged to avoid the area of Linton Street in Carlisle as fire crews tackle a blaze.
Homes had to be evacuated after a property caught fire, which then spread to neighbouring homes.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service called Cumbria police for assistance at around 3.15pm.
There are no reported injuries.
Cumbria police said: “Affected residents have been evacuated and cordons are in place whilst the fire is made safe. The public is asked to avoid this area.”
