New Workington manager Chris Willcock hasn’t ruled out another new face in his squad before Saturday’s League opener at Kidsgrove.
After landing striker Nico Evangelinos, Willcock is now looking at one or two defensive options to provide more strength in depth to his squad.
He said: “It was never going to be a massive overhaul because this is a talented squad but I just thought there are a couple of areas where we need extra to give me a headache in selection.
“But any new player has to be the right personality to fit into our dressing room because I think that’s very important.”
Willcock admitted he was delighted with the 6-0 win over Morpeth Town, although acknowledging the visitors were without six key players.
“At the end of the day you can only beat what’s put in front of you so I’m delighted.
“The big thing, though, was the clean sheet. Since I came in and saw the game at Consett I’ve been working on one or two things defensively and it’s good to see the penny has dropped.
“We scored some quality goals, especially in the second half, and five different goal-scorers which is always good,” he said.
Willcock also hada special word for Charlie Bowman, who played his first full 90minutes of pre-season in the absence of Ruben Jerome.
“I was really pleased for him. He won’t be happy at missing three good chances that we created for him but the job we asked him to do for the team he did really well.
“He has worked very hard since I came to the club and I know he’s had somebadinjury set-backs in the past,” said the manager.
Jerome, and Iyrwah Gooden, were both absentees after feeling unwell during the week and were left out deliberately as a precaution.
So, too, were the early substitutions of Steve Rigg and Kieran Charlton, who should be available for the week-end when Reds travel to Kidsgrove for the first competitive game of the new NPL season.
