Manager Chris Humphrey announced himself well satisfied with Kendal Town’s opening 0-0 draw at home to Glossop North End.
With a dozen new faces in his squad of 20 players he was happy how they had gelled for the first game.
“It’s never easy with so many new players but I was very happy, especially with the clean sheet as we hadn’t managed one in pre-season.
“Morgan Bacon had to make a fine penalty save and they had two other good chances but other than that I thought we dealt with them well.
“I’m pleased I’ve got a bigger squad than I originally intended because we’ve injuries from the game and one or two are not available in mid-week, and games come up thick and fast,” he said.
Kendal go to Bootle on Tuesday and play Glossop again on Saturday in the FA Cup, but this time away from home.
Humphrey has a new assistant this season in the experienced Shaun Gardner, who replaces John Foley.
“John got the chance of a full-time job with Carlisle United and that is what we like to see at Kendal, people here getting the chance to show their ability at professional clubs.
“Shaun has come in and has been the perfect replacement gaining instant respect from the lads through the experience he has,” said the manager.
