Cleator Moor Celtic got off the mark in emphatic style with a 10-0 home win over St Helens Town.
It was their first victory of the season in the North West Counties following a draw and defeat in two away games.
But manager Martin Mahone admitted: “If anything could go right on the day – it did. We were superb and at it from the first whistle, and to be fair St. Helens weren’t that bad.
“We were 4-0 up by half-time and just continued to dominate in the second-half.”
Celtic had Workington Reds centre-half Jordan Little on loan to gain valuable game time and he played for the whole 90 minutes.
“Jordan was excellent and a bit unlucky that he had a goal disallowed,” said Mahone.
Callum Birdsall (4), Ryan Hall (3), Jay Weatherill after Josh Charlton (2) had given them the lead on 15 minutes.
Mahone said: “We have our third away game on Wednesday at Campion so the fixture list hasn’t been kind to us.
“It looks as though we will have the same lads available for mid-week so that’s a positive. Jake Smith and Jack Hunter came back into the midfield against St Helens and were awesome.”
