The Conway Cup took precedence this weekend in the Cumberland County League with six ties contested.
The game of the round had Cockermouth having home advantage over Workington Athletic, but it was the visitors who triumphed 4-2. Kevin Connelly, Tom Pardini. Tommy Whitehead and manager’s son, Macauley Sharp scored the goals for Athletic.
Cockermouth reduced the arrears with strikes from Luke Graham and Sam Wright.
Windscale Reserves travelled to Division One Gosforth and despite taking an early lead through Kieran Fraser were beaten 5-1.
The scores were levelled by an unfortunate own goal after which Gosforth dictated play adding goals from Jordan Livingston, Sam Tallentire, Jack Denwood and Rhys Singleton.
Another Second Division team taking on higher division opposition, saw Mirehouse travel to Carlisle to meet Northbank. Goals from Tom McDonald, Chris Slack, Kevin McKenna and Brendan Box-Gill saw the hosts win 4-0.
Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves also taking on more illustrious opposition, went down 7-2 at home to Aspatria. Will Starkey scored both for the Amateurs.
A hat trick from Aspatria’s Andrew Trestianu, a pair from Wayne Iredale complemented with strikes from Will Hodgson and Ewan Trestianu took Aspatria through.
Pirelli proved too strong for Wigton Harriers, hitting four goals without reply. Luke Firth, Jordan Atkinson, Kieron Blair and Harry Walker were on the score sheet for the visitors.
Workington and Carlisle City Development squads met with the Reds coming out on top 5-2. There was a double from James Bell, supported by efforts from Louis Webster, Matty Foster and Dan Whitehead but no scorers to hand for Carlisle City.
There was one game in Division One of the County League which saw UniSun edge Whitehaven Miners by the odd goal in 11.
UniSun’s six goals came from Stuart Steel, with a double from Karleton Rudd and a hat trick from Mike Williamson. Miners replied with a Lewis Park double, and the others from Paul McNally, Oliver Todd and Owen Woods.
