Cumbria’s three Championship clubs are being asked to monitor the vaccination of their players in the build-up to the 2022 season.
The Rugby Football League plans to bring scrums back into the game next year but clubs have to play their part in the return.
The RFL is looking for clubs to have an 85 per cent-plus uptake on vaccinations (double jabbed) before they reintroduce scrums.
The RFL’s Laws Committee has said that the percentage level has been set for clubs and will include their first team, under-18s, reserves and scholarship groups, as well as women’s teams.
Whitehaven are due to return to training on November 17 when vaccinations will be logged, Workington Town will return on November 13 and Barrow is expected to return around the same time.
The RFL have set a December 31 deadline for the 85 per cent to be reached and say that to achieve the rates required will necessitate a collective effort from club CEOs, club staff, medical staff, coaches, and players alike.
The Laws Committee will review the rates for each squad approaching the deadline date.
Those players who have a valid reason not to have been double vaccinated but are to receive vaccination may count towards the 85 per cent if they sign a statement of intent.
These will include new signings from overseas, younger players who were not previously eligible due to age and programme roll out, players who have tested positive for COVID recently delaying the vaccination process.
The vaccination data is for players only and not backroom or any other essential staff but clubs do not need to provide names of players, only numbers and percentages.
