Carlisle United have announced that they have linked up with Anti Racist Cumbria to work alongside them.
The aim is to help in tackling racism through action and education.
ARC was formed in 2020 to create a forward-thinking county free from prejudice and systemic inequalities.
The aim is for anyone who lives, or works in Cumbria, can succeed and live without fear of discrimination because of the colour of their skin.
Leading Cumbrian organisations like the University of Cumbria and Sellafield Ltd support and work with ARC.
Carlisle United have pledged to support ARC to help to promote its own initiatives, and will work in tandem in the local community.
First on the agenda for United is celebrating the achievements of one of its leading former black players during this Black History Month.
The club will also support the Anti Racist Cumbria Summit in November.
Chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “As a community-based club we want to play our part in making our community one where anyone can live and reach their potential to succeed, free from prejudice and discrimination.
“The players are reinforcing that message by taking the knee but that is only a small part of what the club can do. It must go beyond that gesture.
“Through the fantastic work of the Community Sports Trust, and working with our Carlisle United Supporters’ Groups (CUSG) on new ideas, we all want to help to make a difference.”
United have a long list of initiatives and work they have tackled, including support for the EFL ‘Together Against Discrimination’ campaign; Kick it Out; Show Racism the Red Card; My Club My Shirt campaign and Cumbria Pride.
Clibbens added: “Teaming up with Anti Racist Cumbria further demonstrates that Carlisle United Football Club is committed to making Brunton Park a safe and welcoming space for all to watch league football, and that we are actively tackling all forms of discrimination.
“The club can be a force for good and has a powerful voice. Working with Anti Racist Cumbria will help us build on the good work we are already doing and will also allow us to support some excellent initiatives as we go forward from here.”
