A fire inside the kitchen of a North Cumbria primary school was tackled by firefighters.
At about 1pm, appliances from Carlisle East and Brampton attended to the fire at Irthington Primary School.
A spokesman for Carlisle East Fire Station: “In attendance, it was a big relief to the crews that the teachers and children had done a brilliant job in evacuating in a safe and calm manner, making our job much easier knowing that everyone was safe.
“Crews discovered a small fire involving a dishwasher in the kitchen and extinguished this using two breathing apparatus wearers, a hose reel, a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke, and small tools.
“The fire was quickly extinguished with minimal damage, to ensure the children’s extended lunch break was brought to a premature end, and the children could return to lessons. Nobody was hurt at the incident.”
