Barrow-in-Furness Magistrates Court

A Barrow man is to face a string of charges including one which alleges he raped a woman.

Kirk Ackred appeared before magistrates in Barrow on January 31 accused of four counts of assault by beating, one of affray and one of assaulting, ill-treating, neglecting or abandoning a child over an eight-year period between 2013 and 2021.

The alleged assaults involve three individuals and are said to have taken place on September 7 last year. The alleged affray is also said to have happened on the same day.

Ackred, 40, is also accused of repeatedly or continuously engaging in behaviour that was controlling or coercive between December 1, 2016, and September 8 last year.

The alleged rape is said to have happened on January 1, 2018.

Ackred, of Rating Lane in Barrow, did not enter a plea before magistrates and was bailed to appear before Carlisle Crown Court on March 4.
