Chris Willcock’s pleas for extra goals from mid-field have been answered – but the Workington manager wants more.
Ahead of tonight’s rearranged NPL West clash at Bootle there had been goals from Brad Carroll, Brad Hubbold and Ceiran Casson in recent matches.
Bootle will be dangerous opponents on their hybrid pitch and in Reds current 13-match unbeaten run they are the only side to take points off them.
Willcock said: “I think we saw in that 2-2 draw at Borough Park in shocking weather conditions that they are a decent side, who will be very capable on their own pitch.
“I didn’t think we played particularly well in the second-half on Saturday and if we play like that tonight we will be in trouble.
“We had a good moment, though, with another goal from midfield when Cass produced an excellent finish to double our lead and we were able to see it through.
“I’ve been asking our midfield players to come up with more goals and they have responded well in recent weeks. It is very important to have goals from all areas of the pitch.”
Dav Symington, the Reds top scorer, had to retire with injury on Saturday and will be assessed ahead of the game.
There could be a starting debut for striker Scott Fenwick who has been sharpening his fitness with regular substitute appearances. He scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot at Runcorn Linnets.
Also back in contention will be skipper Conor Tinnion who was an unused substitute on Saturday after being out for three weeks with a hamstring problem.
