It might be as long way off but the final game of Whitehaven’s Betfred Championship campaign has been rearranged.

Jonty Gorley’s men were due to bring the curtain down on the 2022 campaign on Sunday, September 11 at the LEL Arena.

But the two clubs have now agreed to play the game on the day before, Saturday, September 10 but with a 5pm kick-off.

The switch comes ahead of the first fixture between the two clubs at Kingston Park on Saturday with a 3pm kick-off.

Intriguingly this will be Newcastle’s fourth game of the season and their third against Cumbrian opposition.

They opened with a 20-6 win at Workington and last week they went down 14-6 at Barrow and in between they were beaten 32-14 by Batley.

Whitehaven also have one win from their opening three games – an 8-0 success at London Broncos on Sunday.

The Newcastle squad for the game is: Mullen, Johnson, Halsall, Boafo, Woods, Eaves, Clark, Foster, Hallas, Bailey, Chapelhow, O’Neil, Moran, Gallagher, Peachey, Donaghy, Nokes, Anderson, Nicholson, Sutton, Heppel.
