There’s a 50-50 chance that Workington’s game at Ramsbottom tomorrow might be postponed.
The pitch was in a mess after last week’s 3-0 win over Clitheroe and with Storm Eunice forecast to hit the area after Storm Dudley there are already doubts about the game taking place.
Reds secretary Alec Graham has already spoken to his opposite number at Rammy and they have agreed an 8.30am inspection.
Manager Chris Willcock, who joined Reds from Ramsbottom during the summer, knows full well the problems with the ground which has flooded before given its proximity to the river.
“We can’t build our momentum because the number of breaks we’ve had to take. We had the Bootle game postponed last Tuesday and we were without a fixture on the Saturday.
“I don’t understand why clubs are left without Saturday games. It doesn’t make sense.
“If we are off on Saturday it’s possible that the game at home to Widnes on February 26 might be only the second game we get played in February.
“Then we have another blank Saturday on March 5 which is so frustrating for everybody,” said Willcock.
The game with Bootle has now been rearranged for Tuesday, March 8.
The only benefit of the break in fixtures is that it has given injured players time to recover.
Dav Symington and Conor Tinnion both have suffered hamstring injuries and were able to do some light training on Tuesday.
Tinnion was an unused substitute in their 2-0 win over Mossley on February 5 when Symington picked up his injury.
Of the two long-term injured forwards, Scott Allison sees a specialist today for an update on the problem shoulder that was operated on. Willcock believes he might be available for selection for the Widnes game on February 26.
Nico Evangelinos is making progress after stop-start hopes of recovery from his quad injury.
“We seem to have identified the problem and are getting somewhere at last. He is seeing a physio at Huddersfield and I am hopeful of him being ready to play again in three weeks,” said Willcock.
