The Cumberland FA has weighed in behind a Workington junior football club in efforts to secure its future.
Workington Town Council are in negotiations with the owner of the Ranch at Moss Bay and have facilitated the plans to purchase the land for use by the Reds Juniors club and the local community.
Now the County FA have outlined their support for the plans and future development of the club, which currently has 600 members and has been based at the Ranch for over 20 years.
Craig Lewis, the County FA’s football development manager and safeguarding lead, said: “The work of the club members and its committee remain a vital part of retaining the football club that is played on site alongside the wider benefits it brings to the Moss Bay area of Workington and beyond.
“The Ranch has a long-standing history of football being on site and continues to be a priority of football locally, as identified within the local Football Facility plan for Allerdale and the emerging Pitch Strategy.
“The recent partnership with Workington Town Council has demonstrated the club’s commitment to the Ranch to ensure the existing club membership continues to have opportunities to thrive into the future.
“Going forward the County FA will continue to be on hand to offer guidance and support where needed with future developments.”
Alternative facilities with similar standards of pitches and other safety features are not available in the Allerdale area to a club the size of Reds Juniors.
Overall the main aim is to provide a safe and long term opportunity for all the club members to enjoy social links and see their children enjoy being with their team-mates – something which is recognised by the full Workington Town Council.
