Marathon Man Gary McKee has issued an update on the progress of his monumental Three Six Five Challenge as he racks up more than 1,500 miles.

Gary, of Cleator Moor, is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Hospice at Home West Cumbria. His target is £1 million.

“That’s two months of 12 completed or 1,562 miles so far,” he said.

“I’m feeling really strong and probably in better shape than in any other previous challenge that I’ve done.

“Looking after myself is key and making sure that my legs are massaged, I’m taking enough fluids and fuel onboard and I’m getting enough sleep – which are all necessary steps to give myself the best chance of doing what I’m doing.

“I think sometimes I make it look easier than it is by continuously knocking out quicker times, you do get used to the pace you run at and that’s helped with weight loss and your stamina being improved daily, but it definitely isn’t easy.

“I’ve lost around 10 lbs in the last two months which isn’t surprising considering the miles I’m doing. It also depends on what time of day you weigh yourself. A typical run can see you drop 3lbs until you rehydrate.

“The support has been great and there’s only a couple of times I’ve run on my own which doesn’t bother me at all. As we move into the warmer days I’m sure we’ll see more people joining us.

“Will March be in like a lion out like a lamb? Previous years have been quite mild but at the end of the day, does it really matter? By virtue of what I’m doing, I’m an all-weather runner and the weather won’t make me or break me, I’ll adjust to the conditions because the day doesn’t run me, I run the day. It’s all on my terms and I’ll make it memorable and enjoyable.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has got behind me over the last two months none more so than my family who has been with me every step I’ve taken. Without their support and belief in me, none of this would be possible.”
