Cockermouth Junior Football Club’s Under-16s boys team have capped an outstanding season by landing a hat-trick of trophies.
Following their Penrith and District FA league success of last year; winning the U16 league as an under-15 age group, the team have gone two better this year with an impressive haul of silverware.
Not only are they winners of the Under-16 League again, after beating title rivals Castletown Tigers in a thrilling 2-1 end of season encounter, the team have won two further cups.
Both ties played out at the Penrith FC stadium at Frenchfield, saw Cockermouth first beat Carlisle City 5-1 to win the Ted Nanson Cup, followed this weekend by another fine victory over Castletown Tigers, this time 3-0.
For the team’s followers, it’s proved to be a real pleasure to watch the team develop together and continue their philosophy of playing passing football under the guidance of head coach Dermot Cooke and assistant coach Danny McCluskey.
Cooke said: “It’s been a season of commitment, desire, friendship, team-work and dedication from all the team which has led to these victories.
“They’ve played together as a unit for many years now and we’ve had some wonderful performances to remember from all players this year and great support from our parents and sponsors! I look forward to seeing how these players continue progress in the future.
“A big thanks go from the team to our fantastic sponsors Holmen Iggesund and NWB Consultants Ltd for their continued support.”
