Owen Moxon, a player who slipped through the net as a teenager, has joined Carlisle United on a two-year deal.
Carlisle-born Moxon got his first chance in senior football in 2015 making his debut as a substitute for Queen of the South.
He had 10 games for Queens, and also spent a spell on loan with Gretna (eight games) before joining his third Scottish club in 2017 when he signed for Annan Athletic.
Since then the tall midfielder has blossomed and at the end of the season just ended had chalked up 148 games for the Galabank side.
It’s been a momentous final season at Annan because he was voted into the PFA Scottish League Two Team of the Year and also picked-up the Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year for his consistent performances.
Manager Paul Simpson has made Moxon, 24, his first new signing and said: “He’s a player I’ve seen quite a bit of. I’ve seen him live, I’ve spoken to other players, and to coaches, and Peter Murphy has been absolutely fantastic with me on this one.
“I’ve got a lot of information from him about Owen, and I feel you have to do that sort of background check on players when you’re bringing them in to your club.
“I’m really pleased that I’ve got it all agreed, and the challenge now for Owen is for him to show us that he can play at this level.
“I believe he has the capability, he’s got everything in his locker, and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
Simpson is planning to do as much business as possible in the next couple of weeks as he looks to overhaul his squad for the 2022/23 season.
