Workington RNLI volunteers put their platinum jubilee celebrations on hold to help a fishing boat in distress in a six-hour rescue.
The volunteer crew was called at 9.55am today to launch the all weather lifeboat after the vessel, which was around 25 miles off the coast of Whitehaven, radioed for help.
It had suffered engine failure and the crew launched the all-weather lifeboat immediately.
They reached the 28ft boat, which had one person aboard, and towed it to Whitehaven.
It was the second time in a month the crew have been out on a rescue for more than five hours. The crew reached Whitehaven at 3.20pm and the boat was back at Workington station by 4pm, ready for its next service.
