
Veteran Cumbrian goalkeeper Scott Carson has signed a one-year extension to his contract at Manchester City.
A hugely popular member of Pep Guardiola’s squad, the Cleator Moor-born keeper has played twice for the City first team since originally joining on loan from Derby County in the summer of 2019.
The 36-year-old is now tied to the club until the summer of 2023, That original loan deal had bee extended until the end of the 2020-21 campaign when he officially joined City on a one-year deal which has now been extended for a further season.
“I’m delighted to be staying with City for another season,” Carson said.
“To work with Pep, the coaches and such talented team-mates is a real honour and one I relish every day.
“I have already gained so much from my time here and hopefully I can keep helping to push the club’s other goalkeepers to be the best they can be.”
Included in the list of keepers at the club is another Cumbrian, James Trafford, an England youth international and the son of a Greysouthen farmer. Trafford spent last season on loan at Accrington and Bolton.
Carson made his senior debut in 2004 for Leeds United and has since gone on to play for Liverpool, Charlton, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Bursaspor, Wigan Athletic and Derby County.
He started his career with Cleator Moor Celtic and also played briefly for Workington Reds Under-18s side.
