A man who plans to cross the Atlantic in the smallest ever boat has been putting it through its paces in Whitehaven.
Andrew Bedwell, 48, of Lancashire, plans to sail the Big C for 1,900 miles from Newfoundland to Cornwall next May to raise money for Cancer Research.
He was spotted in Whitehaven on Thursday testing the vessel in open water.
He spent almost three years building the 1.4m long fibreglass vessel and if he succeeds, he will break the current 30-year-old world record for the smallest boat crewed alone to cross the Atlantic.
He said he wanted to complete a real challenge before he was 50. He thinks it will take him up to three months to make the crossing. Andrew will be upright for the entire journey and will have to nap rather sleep properly.
There is no room for supplies so he will eat sachets of high protein replacement food, which will be packed into the walls of the boat.
There is a water tank in the base of the boat and he has a desalination device so he can drink the seawater.
