Chesterfield are expected to sign Barrow midfielder Ollie Banks after he was released by the Bluebirds.
Banks had signed a two-and-half-year contract in January after signing 12 months earlier from Tranmere but has now been allowed to leave by a mutual agreement.
He scored 12 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds last season, and will be always be remembered for a sensational 30-yard free kick he cracked home in the 5-4 FA Cup defeat at Barnsley, his home town club.
Banks lost his place towards the end of the season under former manager Phil Brown but had previously been a popular member of the Barrow side.
Now 29, Banks is said to have held positive talks with Chesterfield and the deal is confident expected to go through.
Banks, who played 82 times for Chesterfield between 2013 and 2016 posted on Twitter: “Always gave everything I had for the club on and off the pitch.
“I developed a great relationship with the fans and it was an absolute pleasure to captain the team.”
