Carlisle, apart from an obvious blip at Cockermouth last Sunday, have been the stand-out team in the Cumbria League’s Premier Division.
Nine straight wins in the League have established their lead at the top, eight points clear of their weekend Higson Cup conquerors.
Tomorrow night they have the opportunity to light up Edenside in more ways than one when they take on Wigton in their second match of the Robin Dunn T20 series.
The game is being played under floodlights, an experience that the go-ahead Carlisle club trialled last year at the second attempt, after the first planned event was washed out by the rain.
Secretary Mark Davidson said: “We are hoping the weather will be kind this time so that the public can enjoy the spectacle of coloured clothing/white ball cricket, plus an excellent night out.”
Entertainment on the night is being supplied by Pete Hoban; bars are open from 5.30pm and the action starts at 7pm.
Both sides won their opening games in the competition, Carlisle against Keswick while Wigton recorded a thrilling last ball victory at Cockermouth.
Carlisle continue their League programme on Saturday at home to struggling Egremont, who are next to bottom.
They will be firm favourites to win that one, and then look for Cockermouth’s result at the Valentine Ground where they visit Workington.
Keswick have had one or two set-backs but have worked their way to third in the Premier Division, 16 points behind the leaders.
It will be perceived by most as a two-horse race for the title but Keswick have the talent in their line-up to still make it a three-way contest.
On Saturday they entertain Haverigg who have had a disappointing start to the campaign and lie third bottom.
Wigton will be well satisfied with their start to the season and a trip to Furness tomorrow might not be as daunting as it has in the past.
The reigning champions are only fifth at the moment and it’s Millom who are the leading south Cumbrian side in fourth.
They visit Dalton with the hosts on a high after successive victories over Whitehaven and Haverigg.
The Copeland derby, Whitehaven against Cleator completes the Premier League fixtures.
There are other T20 games ahead of the weekend starting tonight in the south where Furness host Lindal Moor and Haverigg entertain Millom.
In the west on Friday night, the two teams beaten so far by Workington, Whitehaven and Egremont meet at the Playground.
