Kendal Town continued their climb up the North West Counties Premier Division table with a 3-1 home win over Barnoldswick last night.
It followed Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Congleton Town and lifted the Mintcakes into mid-table.
The game looked to be over at half-time with Kendal leading 3-0 but the visitors made a decent fist of it in the second-half.
In fact Barnoldswick had made a very fast start and had Kendal on the back foot for the first six minutes.
Then home keeper Danny Roccia launched a long clearance which was collected by Steve Yawson. He had acres of room to cut into the area and squeeze a shot into the bottom corner.
Roccia had to make a couple of decent saves to keep Kendal ahead but on 27 minutes they scored a fine second goal.
Rob Wilson whipped in a really dangerous free kick and Shaun Sailor was on the end of it to plant a superb header into the back of the net.
Sailor, in fact, could have had another with his head but this time directed it just over the bar.
The third goal came right on half-time and was a splendid finish from Tom Kilifin who turned smartly on the edge of the area before drilling the ball into the bottom corner.
There was a warning for Kendal early in the second half when Roccia had to get down smartly to keep out a shot that was sneaking past him into the net.
They had certainly picked-up the pace and the visitors pulled one back on 63 minutes when Jack Foster headed past Roccia.
He could have had a second, too, but this time directed a header over the bar.
Gradually Kendal regained the initiative and Ryan Winder was denied a fine goal from a free kick by an equally fine save by Jordan Gidley.
There were no real chances for either side and Kendal pocketed another good three points to extend their run as the form team in the League with six wins and a draw from their last seven games.
They don’t play again in the League until next Tuesday with a trip to Avro – who are second in the form table.
