Workington Town will open their League Two season at London Skolars – a club now hailing a bright new future.
Because of West Wales’ resignation, Town lost their opening game and will now start in the capital on Saturday, February 18.
The Skolars have just announced they are awaiting confirmation of an exciting new take-over deal which could change the club’s dynamic.
Ahead of their weekend friendly against London Broncos (which they lost 58-18) the Skolars announced that the current owners are in the final stages of agreeing a takeover by the Australian sports management group ARC.
ARC is based in Queensland whose chief executive is Steve Scanlan who has played rugby league, including in Ireland.
Another director of ARC is former Australian international David Shillington who played 215 games in the NRL and played in State of Origin games.
Scanlan was one of those involved in the proposed New York club which was virtually ended by the COVID pandemic.
Town play Skolars on February 18 and then don’t have another League Two game until March 19 when they host Dewsbury Rams.
It’s one of the reasons coach Anthony Murray fixed up another workout with Bradford Bulls on Saturday, February 4.
Town will be in action on the weekend of February 25/26 when they host either Wigan St Patrick’s or Ince Rose Bridge in the Challenge Cup.
