The Impact Performance National Conference League season is set to start with six of Cumbria’s eight clubs involved.

Only one game takes place in Division Three but that will attract a bumper attendance.

Ellenborough Rangers, newly elected to the Conference start their journey with a short trip to play Seaton Rangers.

Coach Paul Gorge will be looking to make a positive start to the campaign against a Seaton side who just missed-out on promotion last season, their first in the competition.

But it’s a much-changed Seaton squad as they have lost Cieran Walker, Grant Reid, JJ Key and Tom Curwen to Workington Town.

The two other Cumbrian sides in Division Three – Hensingham and Millom – will start their campaign with the other clubs next week.

In the top flight, the Premier Division, Wath Brow Hornets start at home to York Acorns who produced a late flourish last season to avoid relegation.

Ian Rooney’s men had the perfect warm-up last week with a big win over Brentwood Eels in the Challenge Cup.

They will play at Batley in the third round next week so plenty of incentives for performances to earn places in the Cup squad.

Kells are back in the Premier Division after winning the Division One title last season and start at Leigh Miners Rangers.

They, too, have lost players to the semi-pro game in the Burns brothers, Jordan and Aaron to Town and Ross Ainley to Whitehaven.

But coach Peter Smith has some promising younger players coming through and they will have the opportunity to step up to the plate.

Egremont Rangers struggled last season and were relegated from the top flight, but noises coming-out of Gillfoot suggest they are going to give it a real go in Division One.

They open their programme with a trip to Pilkington Recs who went down with them – six points better off than the Cumbrians.

The Cumbrian contingent is completed by Barrow Island in Division Two and they open the season at Woolston Rovers.

The Islanders finished fourth last season with Woolston two places below them so it should be a closer contest to start the new campaign.
