The L&L Property Contractors Snooker League had a week out as semi-final cup action dominated the programme.
The Derwent Valley Asbestos Removal and Demolition sponsored Eric McMullen Memorial TKO Handicap Trophy matches resulted in Division Two’s Station Road Club and Division One’s Workington Golf Club A making the final.
In the first of the two semis Station Road Club took full advantage of their home tie as they ran out 3-1 winners against Division Two leaders Flimby Social.
A victory for Chris Hunter (+32) put Workington’s Station Road Club 1-0 up and as Tom Thompson (+21) continued in his rich vein of form Station Road moved 2-0 ahead.
The Division Two’s leading player Kevin Kirkham (+6) produced a solid display in frame three to pull one back for Flimby but with a thumping victory in the next Darren Lawson (+29) carried Station Road Club through to the final fixed for April 26.
In the other semi final away side Workington Golf Club A came back from 2-1 down to defeat their close Division One rivals Workington Conservative Club, 3-2.
In the first frame Lewis Tilley (+40) made the most of his handicap advantage to win relatively comfortably for a 1-0 Golf Club lead. However with a brilliant break of 51 Cons’ Richard McCarthy (+11) ensured parity was achieved at 1-1.
Alan Moore (+10) used all his years of experience to win an extremely high scoring third frame to put the Cons outfit 2-1 up. But back came the Golf Club in the next as Ryan Ismay (+11) won to secure a decider.
The final frame started cautiously but it was the ever reliable Bryan Walker (+21) who grabbed the initiative, and in gathering the points he required the Golf Club A cueist dragged his team through to the final.
The TKO Plate semis also took place this week with Workington’s Veterans Club defeating Whitehaven’s Rack Shack 3-0 and Workington’s United Club beating Maryport Social 3-2 to make the 19th April final.
In the first semi final Vets’ Mark Tunstall (+18) remarkably angled his opponent on the final black to put his side 1-0 in front and with teammate Mark Tatton (+25) playing superbly in the next the score was soon 2-0.
Needing just one more frame Vets captain Kevin Basnett (Scr) was in no mood for wasting any time and in three quick visits, topped with a break of 42, he pushed his team over the semi-final line.
Finally, the other TKO plate semi started well for Maryport Social as Andrew Sharp (+32) and Ben Scott (+34) put the Division Two side 2-0 up.
This, however, was a good as it got for the Maryport side as an excellent frame winning break of 62 by Peter O’Hagan proved to be the catalyst the United Club needed in pulling it back to 2-1.
United’s Mark Suitor (+34) then stepped up to make it 2-2 and with teammate and captain Andrew Mitchelhill (+13) winning a close affair in the last the TKO plate final match up was decided.
