Workington’s NPL West game at Colne has become a victim of the weather and has been postponed.
Heavy snow has left the Colne pitch unplayable and the match will have to be played later in the season. Colne are actually due at Borough Park on April 22 in Reds final home game.
Manager Danny Grainger might not mind too much as he had several players doubtful with knocks and strains, so they will have longer to recover before the next game a week tomorrow at City of Liverpool.
He has arranged a game for the Development side on Monday and is likely to include Ben Hughes, who played his first game of the season on Tuesday against Carlisle United.
The former Marine winger played for the first 45 minutes in the 4-2 win, his first run-out since Reds’ pre-season games. He suffered a back injury in an accident at work.
Hughes felt fine after his first-half stint, although admitting to being a bit tired from his first serious workout in nearly seven months.
“It’s great to have Ben back with us playing again. It’s like having a new signing and I hope he can play a part in the last few games,” said Grainger.
