As expected there were big wins for champions Distington and Wath Brow A in the latest Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL matches last night.
The third game was predicted to be a lot tighter, and so it proved as Kells A beat Egremont A 26-12.
It got Kells off the mark for the season following their defeat against Wath Brow A last Friday as they built on a 16-6 interval lead to make certain of the points.
They had gone in front on seven minutes with a try by Dan Grears and went further ahead after 16 minutes when Ashton Sice made the line for the second touchdown, converted by Kieran Fleming.
Just after the half-hour Frazer McNee got Egremont back into the game with a try converted by Kaidon Block.
But just before half-time Kells won themselves more breathing space with a try from Joe Moore which Fleming converted.
Seven minutes after the restart Kells increased their lead with a second try for Grears and just short of the hour Fleming added a try and conversion to virtually wrap-up the points.
Egremont did keep going well, though, and seven minutes from time Dylan Scott claimed their second try which Block converted.
Wath Brow A scored 11 tries as they won 56-6 at home to Hensingham A, their second win in the League.
The game was virtually over at half-time with the Hornets enjoying a 26-6 lead after Greg Rooney had gone over for the opening try after only seven minutes. Jenson Olstrum converted.
Two tries inside two minutes by Jack Meagan (13) and Jamie McCallister (15) were also both converted by Olstrum. Then McCallister grabbed his second in the 25th minute which went unconverted.
Hensingham had their best moment five minutes before the break when Brandon O’Fee scored a try, converted by James Johnson but even then Hornets had the last word in the half when Peter Caddy scored an unconverted try.
Wath Browm continued to dominate the second-half scoring six more tries at regular intervals. Caddy scored two more to complete a personal hat-trick and man of the match McCallister got his hat-trick try midway through the half.
Devan Sharp, Meagan and Luke Davison also scored tries with two successful kicks by Olstrum while Caddy put over the final conversion of the game.
Aiden Pirie picked-up the man of the match award for Hensingham A.
Champions Distington were 60-4 winners at Seaton A as they registered their second comprehensive win in defence of their title.
They led 24-0 at half-time and Seaton’s cause was not helped by the dismissal of James Robinson ten minutes into the second half.
Distington also had two players in the sin bin during the game, Jamie Friel and Scott George.
The winners scored 12 tries on the night from Phil Lister (3), Kieran Worthington (2), Lewis Whitehead (2), Stephen Clarke (2), Jack Penrice, Scott George and Tyrone Dalton. Clarke kicked six goals.
The Seaton consolation try came from Byron Coulson.
