Both Cumbria’s NCL Premier Division clubs have home fixtures tomorrow but the other six county clubs are all away.
Wath Brow and Kells will be looking to add to their top flight tallies with matches they can – on paper – expect to win.
But, as the old saying goes, “we don’t play on paper” and attitude will be key to making sure the points are staying in West Cumbria.
Kells, after three successive defeats, need to get back to winning ways and they host a Wigan St Patrick’s side who hadn’t a single point after four games, but have now won two of the last three including a remarkable success over high-flying West Hull.
Peter Smith’s side had started well enough against Wath Brow last week, putting in a very good shift over the first half an hour but were second best as the game progressed and lost 28-6.
The Hornets have been ticking off the victories after a defeat and draw at Lock Lane in the early weeks of the season.
Tomorrow won’t be a given, however, as Rochdale Mayfield are an improved side this season and currently sit fourth, three points behind the Hornets with two games in hand.
For amateur rugby league enthusiasts who follow the Conference League action in the county it will be either Kells or Wath Brow for their entertainment.
In Division One fourth bottom Egremont Rangers travel to Ince Rose Bridge who are two points and one place above them in the table.
Rangers, who came down from the top flight, were looking to consolidate this time round and will be looking anxiously over their shoulders at the moment as they sit too close to the drop zone.
In Division Two Barrow Island are sat mid-table and face a tough trip to leaders Waterhead Warriors who share top spot with Dewsbury Moor and Woolston Rovers.
Millom are Cumbria’s best-placed team in Division Three, currently second but only on points difference to Oldham St Anne’s.
Although they are on the road tomorrow they will travel with confidence to Eastmoor Dragons who are one of the strugglers.
Ellenborough led the table early doors but are two points off the summit in fourth and will have a tricky trip to Leigh East to overcome.
Hensingham have an even tougher test at third-placed Beverley while bottom of the table Seaton Rangers visit one of the early strugglers in Bentley.
