Egremont’s run of six straight victories came to an end in Division One of the National Conference when they went down 36-20 at leaders West Bowling.
The defeat kept Rangers in fourth place but still in a strong challenging position for the play-offs.
Bradford-based West Bowling were completing a League double over the Cumbrians, having won 34-14 at Gillfoot earlier in the season. They have only suffered one defeat.
Two tries in the first quarter of the game gave West Bowling the start they wanted and at half-time they led 14-4 with Aaron Turnbull pulling back a try for the visitors.
The hosts pulled out their lead to 24-4 inside an hour before Egremont got back into it with tries from Jenson Burney and Leon Crellin, one of which was converted by Matty Bewsher.
West Bowling showed their credentials by taking the game away from Egremont with two more converted tries and it was mere consolation when Rangers scored the last try of the game through Kieran Glenn which Bewsher converted.
Egremont will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host fourth from bottom Crosfields. They were the only Cumbrian side to play at the weekend.
