Former Workington speedway announcer David Hoggart has been appointed the new team manager of King’s Lynn Stars.

Hoggart, who worked at Derwent Park for a number of seasons, had a baptism of fire when the Stars were well beaten 65-25 at Wolverhampton on Monday night.

An experienced speedway administrator he was already a familiar face for Stars supporters as he previously spent time with the club as their centre-green presenter.

He is a former team manager and co-promoter at Sheffield, and also had a successful spell as British Speedway’s major events co-ordinator.

Owner Keith Chapman – who stepped in himself last week against Leicester – admits he’s pleased to have a full-time appointment in place.

Chapman said: “I’ve known David for many years, he has a good reputation in the sport and lots of knowledge to bring to the table.

“I did enjoy doing it last week, but it’s definitely best for the riders that they have some form of continuity of team manager after everything that’s happened in the last few weeks.

“I was delighted David accepted the position and he’ll be going straight into the role at Wolverhampton tonight.”

Alex Brady made a shock decision to quit early this month and he had been team manager since 2021.
