Two people have been arrested during an operation by police to crack down on drug-related crime and motoring offences in South Cumbria.
The two-day operation in Ulverston, saw student officers join the Cumbria police’s tactical support group.
Paul Rapka, 30, of Kent Square, Ulverston, was charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, fail to stop, using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving a motor vehicle without a licence. He is scheduled to appear before Barrow Magistrates’ Court on July 19.
A 23-year-old man of Barrow was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle over the specified limit of drugs and possession of cocaine. He was released under investigation.
The arrests followed the use of stop and search powers.
Student officers also helped the tactical support group in finding a high-risk missing person and building a greater intelligence picture on drug-supply in the local area.
Sergeant Alan McNulty said: “We regularly run such operations to target those who seek to commit crimes in the local area.
“The student officers who joined us in this operation provided us with great assistance as they applied learning from their training to the reality of tackling crime in Cumbria.
“I would like to encourage anyone who has any information on drug supply to contact us and tell us what you know. The supply of drugs has a detrimental impact on local communities, be it those directly involved or the wider community who are impacted by the consequences.
“Your information can be vital in efforts to keep people safe. Please don’t stay silent, let us know your concerns or information and we will do all we can to robustly deal with those involved in this form of crime.”
