West Cumberland Federation fanciers see mixed returns at Flookburgh

Paul and Susan Byers won again in Cleator Moor with a bird bred from pigeons off Morris and Wayne McLuckie. Susan is holding the bird which was second. It was bred by Peter Robinson of Kendal and bought in the A ring race auction.

The West Cumberland Federation raced for the second time from Flookburgh yesterday and had mixed returns.

All the clubs except Sandwith were involved as again the members just sent trainers but this time Lowca held a club race.

The Federation is now looking at a third race from Flookburgh but won’t be racing at the weekend because of another poor weather forecast.

Because Saturday and Sunday look awful the Federation is looking at a race on Monday with basketing from 5pm on the Sunday.

On Wednesday Paul Byers repeated his win in the Cleator Moor club, clocking first and second after 1st, 3rd 4th and 5th from the first Flookburgh race.

The Derwent Valley Federation have also decided to ignore the weekend for racing because of the bad forecast.

The weather will be monitored before a decision is made but controversially officials have again decided to mark on the morning of the race, irritating fanciers who have work commitments.

CLEATOR MOOR CENTRAL (8 sent 440): 1, 2, P. and S. Byers 1241.7, 1241.3; A. and T. Kenmare 1236.4; 4, 5, 6, Rodgers and Benn 1236.3, 1236.3, 1235.

EGREMONT (178 birds): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Wilson and Buchanan 1236, 1233, 1232, 1231.1, 1231.1; 6, D. Harrison and son 1207. (Flookburgh 1, 68 birds): 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, Wilson and Buchanan 1274, 1273, 1272, 1259, 1258; 4, Mr and Mrs Bewsher 1270.
