Back to it for the club yesterday and down the M6 for the North West finals of the NABGCs in Blackburn’s youth zone.
First finalist 2007 60-63kg, Alfie Govans was up against a very strong opponent (J Smith Sandygate), who over the three rounds was able to use his height advantage to get over the cleaner shots to collect the win, although when given the opportunity, Alfie was able to score nicely on the inside on occasion in an entertaining encounter.
Second Finalist 2008 63-66kg, Elliot Murray, like the previous bout was up against an equally experienced and skilful opponent (Alfie Boyd Bridgewater) in a very tactical encounter in which both boxers used their awkward styles to score when quick enough to do so, which resulted in the judges being split after the three rounds and Boyd scoring victory in a tight decision which could have gone either way.
Finally, there was time for a club bout on the show and stepping at a few days’ notice was always improving Alysha Duncan again home show competitor (M Bradshaw Technique).
This barnstorming encounter was very exciting to the watching audience who were able to witness a thrilling encounter in which Alysha’s survived two standing eight counts to actually finish the stronger of the two in the ring.
Bradshaw was given the win on this occasion as both boxers were shattered afterwards and cheered loudly and deservedly of the ring after a splendid effort.
A special thanks to Alan, Chris and Joe for transporting, preparing and coaching the boxers and our supporting team of three.
Thirteen days to our home show now – it’s going to be exciting.
