Defender recently released from Workington gets new club

Gabriel Rios Newton

Argentinian defender Gabriel Rios Newton, who was released by Workington recently, has a new club.

He made his Bamber Bridge debut in the starting line up for the Lancashire Challenge Trophy tie at home to West Didsbury and Chorlton.

The Bridge were comfortable 5-1 winners against the North West Counties League side.

Newton had trained with the Reds before signing NPL forms and one of his first appearances was also in a County Cup-tie against Gosforth.

He only figured in two NPL games before he was allowed to leave, and has now joined Bamber Bridge.

Other players left around the same time – Lewis Moore, Connor Hammill, Keelan Leslie, Matty Todd – and manager Danny Grainger brought in two newcomers last week in Joe Bunney and Dannen Francies – both on loan.

He has been trying since then to bring in other new faces and the latest information is that he’s hopeful of bringing in a new face before the week-end.

Reds visit Basford on Saturday, the second of four successive away games before they return to Borough Park on December 2 against Hyde United.
