The swings and roundabouts of speedway have been perfectly illustrated by former Workington rider Charles Wright.

Earlier in the week the 35-year-old was confirmed as returning to the Championship next season with Redcar Bears.

Today comes the news that Wright is not being retained for the Premiership by Belle Vue Aces.

Wright suffered a bad injury riding in Poland which meant he missed the last few weeks of the season but is looking forward to resuming his riding career in 2024.

As well as Wright, Belle Vue have released Tom Brennan and both will now be seeking team places elsewhere in the Sports Insure Premiership.

Both riders have spent the last three seasons with the Aces, helping them to lift the league title in 2022, with Brennan advancing out of his initial Rising Star berth.

The club said: “With team building in full swing for 2024 we can confirm Charles Wright and Tom Brennan will not be back in Manchester next year.

“We cannot overstate how much we appreciate your years of service, and we wish you both the very best in the new year.”
