Camron Gbadebo has started a GoFundMe page after suffering a serious injury in his first game after leaving Workington Reds.
Gbadebo joined Reds from Marske but only played a handful of games before he went on trial to the National South side Eastbourne Borough.
He made his debut as a substitute but had only been on the field for a short while when he suffered a serious knee injury which has ended his season.
Gbadebo, a former Man City and Leicester City youth team player, had joined Reds on non-contract terms after impressing against them for the ill-fated Marske United when he scored their first goal.
The 21-year-old centre-back says: “On December 16 I suffered a raptured ACL during my debut for Eastbourne vs Welling . With the intention to sign my contract the Monday following my injury I had only registered for Eastbourne Borough, which unfortunately meant I wasn’t covered for any injuries I picked up.
“This is a chapter that I did not expect but I will be back and ready to continue my journey back to professional football.”
Gbadebo says he will need an ACL reconstruction operation costing in the region of £10,000 and specialist rehab over the coming months.
He goes on: “For my recover I will need specialist rehab and physio for the next eight months to enable me to gain mobility and strength and get back playing. I would like to thank FSCR for agreeing to provide physio and rehab and most importantly the support for what is ahead.
“I would like to thank Eastbourne Borough FC for arranging a private scan and support over the last 2 two weeks.
“I started paying football aged nine at Lambeth Tigers FC where I gained passion and hunger for the game. I then joined Crystal Palace Academy before at 16 I signed my scholarship with Leicester City. I then moved to Manchester City – I signed at Colchester followed by an excellent season (22/23) at Wingate & Finchley FC where I won Player of the Season and Young player of the season.
“This season I joined Marske United then moved to Workington AFC when an opportunity came to move to National League South team Eastbourne Borough and pursue my progression up the football ladder.”
So far Camron has raised £3,815 of his £13,340 target.
