The Workington and Cockermouth Area of the Hound Trailing Association celebrated the winners from the 2023 season.
The main aim of the event, held at the Hundith Hill Hotel, was to present the trophies to all the winners within the Cockermouth and Workington area.
But secondly it was also to show appreciation to the farming community for allowing the area to run their trails over their land during the season.
At this latest presentation there were a number of farmers in attendance and it was David and Colette Brown, of Seaton, who presented the trophies. Without the continued goodwill of the local farming community then hound trailing would not be able to carry on.
Money raised throughout the year by the area and the local supporters groups is donated back to local charities, often influenced by the local farmers.
This year the Area donated over £600 to local good causes which included Bridekirk’s church, Flimby’s church, mountain rescue, plus Loweswater Show, Buttermere Show, Cockermouth Show and the Melbreak Foxhound Show at Lorton.
In addition to these donations Cockermouth Supporters Club also donated money to Greysouthern Young Farmers and to the Andy Man’s Club which is a national UK charitable organisation which allows men to come together in a safe environment to talk about issues and problems they may be facing.
There was also £500 donation to the Great North Air Ambulance and an additional £100 donation to mountain rescue. This money was raised through the provision of catering over the last month when the regular caterer could not attend.
The area would like to thank Fiona Dixon, Mary Benson and Jacquie Molyneux for providing the catering and to everyone who attended the trails and who purchased the cakes, pies and sandwiches which seemed to be particularly appreciated during the last month of the season when it can be pretty challenging weather wise.
On the night there were three kennels who had excelled during last season with the Dearham team, the Foxparke team and Tania Satterthwaite taking home the bulk of the trophies.
A special thank you went to Sophie Steele who provided dog jackets for all the winners in addition to their trophies.
On the night there were over 40 trophies handed out, which took some organising so the area also thanked Phil Graham for all his work in getting everything sorted for the night.
The Hundith Hill Hotel always provides an excellent night and have been keen supporters of the Area for many years. So another big thank you went to Joan and Phil Butterworth and all their staff for accommodating the area and providing good value for money.
Members are now looking forward to a new season starting with the March Trials and then the Championship Trails which start in April.
