A familiar face has returned to Brunton Park, joining Paul Simpson’s coaching staff until the end of the season.
Billy Barr, 55, played over 100 games for the Blues between 1997 and 2000 and is back at the club after a spell as assistant manager with Dundee.
Manager Simpson told the club’s official website: “It’s something I’ve been thinking about for the past week or two. I just wanted another set of eyes, a fresh face and a new voice around the place just to see if we can change the dynamic.
“It’s a case of trying to freshen it up a little bit with a new member of staff and I think Billy will add to the group that we’ve already got.
“I’m looking forward to working with him again. He’s been clicking his heels at home and wanting to get back involved. I made a call to him yesterday and straight away he said yes and asked when he could start.
“I wanted that enthusiasm and I wanted somebody new to come in. I’m looking forward to working with him and I’m hoping he can have a real positive influence on the group.”
Halifax-born Barr, who played over 200 games for his home-town club before joining Crewe (85 games) and then Carlisle, actually served as caretaker boss at Brunton Patk from April to August in 2002,
He subsequently coached at Wrexham, and also served as caretaker boss there, before joining Blackburn Rovers as head of their Under-23’s.
He was assistant manager at Salford City under Gary Bowyer before the pair joined Dundee, securing them promotion before both left the club at the end of last season.
