Carlisle United are said to be already looking at summer recruits – whichever Division they will be in.
Bottom of League One, eleven points adrift of safety and with the worst goal difference, United are said to be interested in a young Blackburn Rovers forward.
Harry Leonard, 20, has been with Blackburn since he was ten and has come through the club’s youth system.
He was available for a loan deal in January but ultimately stayed at Blackburn. The feeling is that he will go out on a season’s loan in the summer.
Rochdale-born Leonard has played in 19 games for Rovers this season, just nine of which were starts, and he has netted three times.
Football journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Carlisle are interested in signing Leonard in the summer but will face opposition from Oxford United.
By the end of the current campaign those clubs could be two Leagues apart as Oxford are pushing for a promotion play-off place while Carlisle are rock bottom.
Interestingly both clubs brought in new strikers during the January window.
Oxford signed Will Goodwin from Cheltenham Town, whilst Paul Simpson’s Carlisle recruited Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town and Georgie Kelly from Rotherham United.
