Sunday saw the first of three trial trails at Buttermere which are promoted and run by Ricky Deacon.

Ricky has been running trails for over 50 years and is now in his 70s and still going strong.

There was a good turnout of dogs with Buttermere the only open trial trail held over the weekend.

First into action were the pups with a slip of 22 of them. The trail would be the first real test on the fell with a steep climb out before the hounds cut across the middle of the fell before dropping down again.

As they showed on the finish it was Denise and Jenny Bland, Graeme Little and Lisa Crosby’ s Huntsman’s Time that came with a good lead to finish really well.

Huntsman’s Time came over from Ireland and is out of Little Gem and Fooly Buff and the little hound certainly ran and finished well.

In second place was Foxparke Elliot’s Lass for Nicola, Robyn, Ellie and Grace Napier and Brook Butler who finished well just in front of Brian and Erin Rowlandson’s Blue Striker.

Next to slip were the senior hounds with 27 of them and as they showed on the finish it was a much tighter affair with Foxparke Beep Beep for the Napier’s finishing well on the low side to just beat Andrew Bulman, Laura Steel and Ian Rumney’s Embrace.

The Napiers’ Foxparke Honk Honk was close up in third.

It was nice to see Foxparke Beep Beep back on form and running well.

The All-Ins were next to go with another good slip of 24 hounds and as they showed it was Graham Reid’s Money Talks who crossed the line in first place with Foxparke Side Kick in second and Foxparke Whoosh in third place.

All hounds were in and the day suddenly brightened up after raining heavily all afternoon.

Trailing returns to Buttermere on Thursday this week but before then there is a trial trail back at Cardurnock on the Solway coast on Wednesday.
