Whitehaven have signed the 20-year-old St Helens forward Brett Bailey on loan for an initial two weeks.

Bailey is the current reserve player of the year for Saints and appeared for the senior side in 2024 pre-season encounters against Salford and Swinton crossing for a try against the Lions.

Head coach Jonty Gorley has been looking for an extra middle following the Championship defeat against Sheffield last time out.

After confirming the deal for Bailey he said: “We’ve secured the young front rower from Saints on a two-week loan deal, He won their reserve player of the year award last season and featured in this year’s pre-season games with the first team.

“He comes highly recommend from Mike Rush who said he’ll do a job in the championship. Brett is only 20 years old and is known for his strong running game.

“I’d just like to thanks St Helens and Mike Rush in particular for coming to our aid. Ash Kilpatrick has again worked hard helping us get more strength in depth in regards to middle players.”

Bailey will go straight into consideration for this Sunday’s clash with Batley at the Ortus Rec in the Betfred Championship, kick-off 3pm.
