Barry Cruddace for Ex B.

As the snooker league season draws to a close in Carlisle next Tuesday night there are still a few positions in each league to be confirmed.

Qzone have already retained the Division One title and their latest match was away against long-time rivals The Rock and it is always a competitive fixture.

Paul Wright for Qzone was up first against Mally Lancaster who started well to take an early lead and kept it until the frame came down to the colours.

Paul needed three snookers with the pink and black remaining but the played an unbelievable shot to snooker Mally behind the black that was on the bottom left cushion.

With the miss rule in effect, Mally was unable to hit the pink in two attempts and after a third miss, Paul proceeded to pot the pink and black to win the frame 71-60.

Giles Finegan for Qzone played Paul Cowing in the second frame, taking few risks against his Rock opponent. He restricted Paul to very few chances and potted well himself to win the frame 52-18, to put Qzone 2-0 up.

Paul Corbishley was up next for Qzone against Stephen Little. Paul had to play with a replacement and so unfamiliar cue and by his own admission, didn’t play very well.

However Stephen didn’t give him much of a chance really, as he potted every chance he got and then cleared the colours from green to black to win 69-21 and earn The Rock’s first point of the night.

Chris Forrester for Qzone and Tony Armstrong had a brilliant game with many chances either way. Tony was unlucky to come out a loser after Chris potted the pink and black to snatch victory for Qzone 57-48.

Ian Pattinson for Qzone and Neil Armstrong for The Rock played the final frame of the night with ‘Yan’ dominating the frame and not giving Neil a sniff.  He potted really well, coming out the winner by 80-15.

Qzone won the match 4-1, plus two bonus points for an away win, making the final score 6-1, which means The Rock will finish in third place.

The Rock A’s relegation has been confirmed this week, but the other place in Division Two next season is going to be taken by either RAOB A or SECC A. SECC A currently have one more point, so it’s anyone’s’ guess as to who will finish second bottom.

In Division Two SECC C’s promotion was confirmed weeks ago, as they have had a fantastic season, but the battle for second place is extremely close.

SECC sit on 52pts, two points clear of Qzone Originals, St Margaret Marys, Eastriggs and the Conservative Club who are all on 50pts. A decisive win for any of those teams next Tuesday, could be enough for them to snatch the runners up place.

Ex Servicemen’s Club B entertained second in the table SECC in what proved to be a very close match.

The first frame was between Gary Hurst for the Ex Club against Mark Taylor. Gary was in top form and won comfortably 62-22.

Mark Beattie then played Andy Foster in a frame which was high-scoring and all about potting balls with little thought to safety play. Andy potted the pink and black to win 53-45 to make the match score level.

Barry Cruddace for The Ex then played Martin Milner in the third frame. Barry’s experience over his young opponent from the South End was enough for him to win when the frame got to the colours. He won 62-28 to put the Ex Club 2-1 up on the night.

The fourth frame saw Danny Penrose play just as well for The Ex against Harry Ruddick, potting the colours to win 64-29, which put them 3-1 up on the night.

The final frame of the night saw Stuart Telford for the South End take on Sam Cowen for The Ex. Both players were determined not to give their opponent even the slightest chance of building a break and lots of balls seemed to find their way to sit on cushions.

Stuart had a few points in hand as it went to the colours and after potting up to the blue, it proved enough to win the frame 53-26, The final match score was 3-2 plus 1one point for a home win so it finished 4-2 to The Ex Servicemen’s B.
